Waiting vs. Acting
The option nobody lists, chosen more often than either of the others, and occasionally correct.
No credit check and no obligation. If borrowing is the wrong answer for your situation, you will be told that first.
The whole argument, in one line

| Category | Borrowing against it | Doing Nothing Yet |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Interest | Nothing directly. Waiting wins here |
| Optionality | Committed to a term | Everything stays open. Waiting wins here |
| If the pressure resolves itself | You borrowed unnecessarily | You were right. Waiting wins here |
| If the pressure worsens | Already handled | Fewer options, and worse ones |
| Negotiating position later | Strong — funded | Weaker as the deadline nears |
| Risk of a forced sale | Removed | Rises the longer you wait |
| Effort now | A conversation and shipping metal | None. Waiting wins here |
Every row marked “wins here” is a real advantage of the alternative, and on this site the alternative wins a lot of them. A comparison where the lender wins every row is an advertisement.
The fair case
What doing nothing yet genuinely does better
Waiting is free and it is very often correct. Most cash pressures resolve without any financing at all — an invoice gets paid, a purchase gets deferred, a supplier agrees to terms, a slow month ends. None of those cost anything, none of them puts your metal behind an obligation, and any lender who suggests inaction is never an option is selling rather than advising. The default answer to most short cash gaps should be to do nothing and let them close.
The limit
Where the gap is
Waiting stops being free when the delay itself has a price. A discount forgone, an opportunity taken by somebody else, a penalty incurred, a contract lost, an obligation missed that carries a real consequence — those are costs, and they belong in the comparison alongside the cost of borrowing. The mistake runs in both directions and we see both: people borrow when waiting would have been free, and people wait while a delay quietly costs more than the money would have. The only way to know which you are doing is to put both numbers next to each other.
Our view
The honest verdict
If the cash need might genuinely evaporate, wait — borrowing against that is paying for a problem you may not have. Waiting stops being free at the point where it converts a choice into a forced sale on someone else's deadline, and that transition is rarely noticed while it is happening. The useful question is not "do I need this today" but "what will my options be in sixty days if nothing improves".
